Are you a fan of Anthropomorphic animals? Kung Fu? Jack Black? Movies? If you answered yes to any of these then you have found your movie. As he's done a few times previously (School of Rock, Be Kind, Rewind) Jack Black sheds his standard array of stoner jokes to put in a quality effort as the down-trodden panda turned hero his this excellent family film.
As with Shrek, Dreamworks Animation puts forth an excellent effort in both animation style and quality to back up charming story of Kung Fu Panda. From the moment the customized Dreamworks logo played across the screen we knew we were in for a treat. The kung fu styles are captured perfectly in the various characters throughout the film (Tiger, Mantis, Monkey, Crane, and Viper among others) with vibrant colours and very smooth movement blending with the wonderfully drawn backgrounds to make nearly every scene a beautiful sight to behold.
The story is fairly standard as far as family movies go but very enjoyable none-the-less. Just as Dreamworks managed to do with shrek they spread enough humour and likeable characters throughout the film to make it enjoyable throughout its 90-ish minute length. They managed to include everything we love about kung fu movies, animated movies and comedies all in one attractive package.
I'll definately be picking this one up on DVD (or maybe even Blu-ray).
