Grindhouse double feature: Planet Terror and Death Proof

I'm a big fan of anything cheesy, b-rated, and set in the old days when there were smoking guns, bad guys, and hypnotic music. See Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!.

Or see the powerful duo of Grindhouse that is Planet Terror and Death Proof.

First, the nice touch of a double-feature, especially late night, full of zombies, chicks, cars, bikes, shotguns, bad guys, good guys, antidotes, and funny lines is awesome. Add on top of that fake trailers, hobos with shotguns, machete guys, Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino, female werewolves of the SS, Nick Cage as Fu Manchu, Thanksgiving gone mad, and the guy who played Rico from Six Feet Under (another Rodriguez), you have some pretty great things. But then there is Cherry Darling, a women who gets her leg eaten by a zombie and subsequently undergoes flawless surgery during a zombie outbreak, only then to have her savior, mighty Mexican "El Ray", attach a submachine gun to act as prosthetic, and well, there you have it! But don't forget Kurt Russell, Jungle Julia, and Zoe Bell.

Anyway, we saw this when it first came out, and again last night my husband and I saw it again after a romantic evening of walking in the park, dinner at Cockney's Fish & Chips, and driving around the mountains. Because Grindhouse is just that good. After holding hands and staring at mountains, there is nothing better than watching guys' balls get cut off.

And the music! Tarantino and Rodriguez are rich. I will definitely be watching this movie over and over during my lifetime. When I turn 80, I'll get a sentimental pang to go watch it. I'm serious. Best double-feature ever!

Mood: Hold tight
Music: Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Titch

Rated high on the B-movie scale. Two great stories. Fantastic soundtracks.
